From October 2022 through to March 2023, a raft of new Dynamics 365 Business Central Wave 2 updates will be rolled out to help businesses improve their operations. Here we go into more detail about some of the planned key enhancements and how they could help and support your organisation in the months to come.

More worldwide availability

Once wave 2 has been released, it will mean more than half the countries in the world will be able to use Business Central, making it one of the most accessible ERP platforms on the market. 10 new markets are benefiting from this next round of changes.

Enhanced administration and governance sections

The new release makes it even easier to set up and manage customer environments. IT departments and users with admin authority will be able to access who can access the platform and the type of actions they will be allowed to carry out. User activity can also now be monitored in Dynamics 365 Business Central, while there are new tools that enable admins to track changes made on the system and enforce compliance policies, where needed.

Improved reporting and in-depth finance and supply chain fields

Many of the updates provided in Wave 2 are based on the most popular requests to improve the platform, which is why we are seeing changes being made to improve the reporting tools. There will also be enhancements to the supply chain sections, including new real-time weather event updates, improved data mapping, ingestions and more.

Better AL development support in Visual Studio Code

This is good news for AL developers who will see new productivity features that will support their AL work and debugging activities. Additional changes include updates to the AL language extension and improved efficiency to support writing faster upgrade code.

Easier integrations with Microsoft Power Platform

Users will now find it easier to integrate Business Central with the likes of Dataverse, Power Apps, Power Automate and Power Virtual Agents. This will help businesses improve their customer service through the building of virtual agents, along with the ability to create custom apps and the automation of workflows.

Smoother onboarding

Microsoft has made some helpful changes that will make it easier for customers to plug in and get started with Business Central. By improving connectivity to third-party operational productivity services, users will be able to easily find apps to connect to core services, install and set up new apps, improve clarity with new field descriptions and access setup pages for new apps far more easily.

More productivity through Microsoft 365

There will be more collaborative experiences, insights and tools available following the release of Wave 2, enabling businesses to become more efficient and productive in the process. Repetitive and time-consuming tasks can be automated offering a better way to get things done within your organisation.

Superior user experience

User experiences in both mobile and desktop environments are also improved, with new UI design elements made available and the ability to switch company views (within an existing tab or by opening a new tab) so you can directly compare data without having to flick between pages.
